Company’s financial contribution to SEDSO will help provide both boys and girls access to education throughout the northeast African country.
MDSi, a leading provider of technology products, software, integration services and supply chain solutions, today announced that the company has donated to SEDSO, a non-profit organization that builds, renovates, and expands schools in Sudan.
The donation comes after one of the company’s employees, Zuhair Hassan, recently became involved with SEDSO. Hassan, MDSi’s Director of Field Services, has personally sponsored the construction of classrooms dedicated to his late brother and father.
“My motivation is education,” says Hassan. “Because I’m from there, I care about Sudan, and I know how difficult life can be for some people there. The only thing they lack is an opportunity. Through SEDSO, we are trying to provide them the opportunity for an education and hopefully a better future.”
One of the classrooms Hassan sponsored has allowed girls to return to high school in North Kordofan state, which has been affected by the simmering conflict in neighboring South Kordofan. The families from the village of Al Defeena had pulled their girls from school because the daily walks to and from the campus had become dangerous. In response, SEDSO built Al Defeena High School for Girls, which is much closer, safer, and includes a water well, electricity, and a small vegetable garden.
MDSi’s donation will help SEDSO continue expanding education access in the country and support initiatives at two schools in Sudan: A majority of the donation will go to Al Farouq Primary School in the eastern state of Kassala, bordering Eritrea. The remainder will go to Al Imam Primary School in the central state of Al Jazeera, the same school where Hassan’s second classroom is located.
SEDSO expressed gratitude for the donation, and said it is looking forward to continuing its partnership with MDSi and Hassan.
