Customers

Fostering sustainability on behalf of our customers is a core element of the MDSi business model and has been for over 30 years. The company began by specializing in reverse logistics. We removed equipment for companies that no longer needed it, then found opportunities to either reuse that equipment elsewhere or responsibly recycle it.

Although we’ve grown and added new services over the years, our original commitment to sustainability in general and the circular economy in particular has only increased. Today we leverage Acuity—the proprietary asset management software we developed in-house—to proactively advise customers about the most climate-friendly ways to both acquire equipment for new initiatives, and also dispose of equipment that has reached end of life. This can mean helping them find under-utilized equipment within their own organization that can be redeployed to their latest project. It can mean searching inventory of our OEM partners for remanufactured equipment. It can mean making them aware of the most energy-efficient new products. And it can mean recycling equipment for them when it has reached end-of-life.

Partners

While we do not manufacture the products we sell, it’s worth mentioning that the OEMs we work with are among some of the most committed entities in the world when it comes to reducing their carbon footprints. Companies like Cisco, Juniper, and Arista have all made ambitious commitments to reaching Net Zero emissions within the next 15 years. They’re doing things like: reducing packaging, making their products easier to repair, buying green energy, retrofitting their facilities to use less power, and innovating to create products that are exponentially more energy efficient with each generation.

Ourselves

Although most of the impact we achieve in the area of carbon reduction truly does come from the way we help our clients improve sustainability, we of course have an in-house program to reduce waste and emissions. We voluntarily disclose our Scope 1-3 carbon emissions to the public every year through a CDP disclosure.

2024 Reporting
-Reduce electricity usage by 5% (from a 2021 baseline)
-Increase recycling rate within our corporate office by 10% (from a 2023 baseline)

2025 Initiatives
-Increase recycling rate within our corporate office by 10% (from a 2024 baseline)
-Reduce landfill waste by 10% (from a 2024 baseline)

  • 1,900
Tons of electronics recycled in 2023
  • 190,827
    Assets redeployed in 2023
  • 45,798
Metric tons of carbon emissions avoided through redeployment in 2023

I suspect companies think we’re over-promising when we say we can help them reduce carbon emissions and save money at the same time. But we’re not. Really. We’ve been doing this for over 30 years and in that time we’ve become quite skilled at isolating opportunities to transform the digital environment while minimizing impact on the natural environment.

Social

MDSi has always been committed to having a positive impact on both our own employees and the greater community, and over the years that commitment has only grown.

Inside these walls, that means providing an environment where employees not only feel physically safe, but where there emotional well-being is looked after. Where diversity is not only welcome, but sought after. Where opportunities are based on merit. And where ethics are both taught formally and demonstrated informally every day.

Externally, we support our local community by sponsoring and partnering with a wide range of local non-profits, from well-known groups like the United Way, CASA, and our Chamber of Commerce to niche organizations like MentorMe, Family Haven, and FTLOAH (For the love of a horse).

On top of that we host an annual fundraiser with all proceeds going to the Travis Manion Foundation—a non-profit dedicated to empowering veterans and families of fallen heroes.

  • Travis Manion Foundation

The hallmark program of the Travis Manion Foundation, called Character Does Matter, is a youth mentorship program led by veterans and families of the fallen volunteers. It is designed to help develop character and leadership skills in young adults.

  • MentorMe

Mentor Me North Georgia connects young people ages 6-17 to trusted adults and positive role models who provide opportunities for them to reach their full potential.

  • Family Haven

Family Haven in Forsyth County Georgia provides resources, safe temporary shelter, crisis support, and referral services for victims of domestic violence.

  • For the love of a horse

FTLOAH is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of equines, specifically those with critical-care needs that would otherwise be euthanized.

  • United Way

United Way of Forsyth County works to bridge the gap between the needs that exist, the services that are provided, and the cost of making those services available to the folks who need them.

  • CASA

CASA of Forsyth County is committed to providing trained advocates for children and families in crisis so that they have someone to speak on their behalf during a difficult chapter in their lives.

  • Alpharetta Chamber of Commerce

Dedicated to being the ultimate business companion, the Chamber bridges connections with the right individuals, tools, and services essential for local business growth and prosperity.
