Challenge

During the global supply chain crisis, equipment delivery delays became a critical challenge, causing project shutdowns, deployment disruptions, and revenue losses for many organizations. Traditional distributors, offering only simple passthrough models, left clients waiting 200+ days for essential equipment—impacting their ability to meet commercial commitments. One of MDSi’s customers—a global service provider—was particularly frustrated by the impact of these delays and reached out to MDSi for possible solutions

MDSi stepped in with a game-changing solution, partnering with two important but often underutilized Cisco organizations: Cisco Refresh and Cisco Capital. Cisco Refresh is the organization within Cisco that remanufactures lightly used equipment to like-new condition, then resells it at a significant discount. Cisco Capital is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cisco Systems, which offers flexible financing and remanufactured equipment for Cisco solutions.

Together we created a new supply model that optimized lead times, reduced costs, and ensured project continuity. Instead of relying solely on new equipment with long lead times, we developed a strategic blend of Cisco new and Certified Refresh (RF) equipment, enabling:
