Challenge

An enterprise consulting firm with thousands of employees and a global footprint spanning  more than 100 countries was struggling with the technology updates associated with their M&A activity. 

You see, this company is on an extraordinary growth trajectory, and that means regular mergers and acquisitions—on the order of 8-10 a year. 

When they complete these acquisitions, they need to get the employees and facilities of the newly-acquired entities onto the same technology systems as the rest of the company. This is no easy task, as the acquired entities often have multiple sites with thousands of employees. What’s more, the upgrades require equipment from multiple manufacturers—all of which come with different lead times. Some products are available immediately. Others take weeks or even months to arrive. Which means the equipment that arrives first needs to be stored until the rest of it shows up and the complete solution is ready to be deployed. This had become a challenge because the company had neither the warehouse facilities nor the staff to hold, sort, configure, and dispatch this incoming equipment.

Solution

The company chose MDSi to provide the space and expertise they need to upgrade their acquired companies’ systems quickly and consistently. 

Now, within 30 days of each acquisition, the customer sends their own engineers to do a site audit, and they in turn send MDSi a list of the equipment they will need to complete the upgrade. MDSi orders the required products from the different manufacturers, then receives and stores them as they arrive over the next several weeks. Once the deliveries are complete, we configure the equipment, repackage it, and ship it to the customer ready to be installed. 

Outcome

Now that MDSi is involved, the system upgrade process is much smoother. The company no longer has to scramble to find storage locations, there is no confusion about what is being shipped where, and engineering time is saved because everything shows up ready to be installed. This relationship began in 2019 and the company remains a client of MDSi to this day.
